I read a lot about the Law of Attraction. Simply put, whatever we concentrate on the most is what we will get more of. Regardless of whether it’s good or bad. You see, the Universe doesn’t decide if something is to our benefit or not. Since thought is a form of energy, anything we focus on with strong emotional feelings and concentration, we ultimately bring into our actuality.
Let me give you a snapshot of how it works:
“I don’t want to be late.”
What the Universe hears:
“I want to be late and I want to be late all the time”.
Essentially, we must get out of the habit of thinking of things we don’t want. Because what we resist persists; whatever we keep resisting is what we will get more of. As much as I understand this process, I still have a lot of work to do in applying it. I’ve been resisting my situation for months without really recognizing that I was perpetuating it. I’ve been passionately concentrating on wanting to leave my apartment for a bigger place and having an increase in my income. Therefore, since I’ve been resisting, I’ve shaped my reality of being in the same place I was months ago.
Choosing Our Reality
Then, it hit me. I need to change my mindset. Instead of resisting where I am in my life (career, money, apartment) I elected to believe that I chose it. I’ve chosen to be exactly where I am now. I am an educator who has decided to be a writer. As a budding writer, I am happy with my current living and financial situations because I know it can only get better from here. This change of mindset has made me feel elated. I know that by accepting where I am now, I can stop spending all of my energy and thoughts fighting it and can concentrate more on what I do want. I can literally think my life into existence! And so can you.
This acceptance does not signify that I’ve thrown in the towel. On the contrary, instead of having given up, I have decided on a different course of action in order to set the path for the life I really want. I am owning my current circumstances. I’ve shed all those feelings of lack and wont and have replaced them with a newfound confidence and trust. The future is mine!
Thoughts Become Things
It can be difficult to stay on track with positive intentions. When I get pulled in several different directions, I have found it beneficial to make notes and place them in the areas where I spend most of my time. One of those places is near my laptop. I have a vision board on the wall with the following affirmations:

My home is a peaceful haven
One of my dreams is to travel to distant places including Dubai, Ireland and France. I made my very own mind movie with the help of Windows Live Movie Maker. In it, I placed pictures of the places I want to go along with random photos of myself with my family. I added in two of my favorite songs and…voila! A magical experience that definitely plants the seeds for my future.
In closing, depending on our desires, we can’t expect instant gratitude (unless you visualize that parking spot you want). Most of the bigger things will require persistence and faith. Much like planting a seed and watching it grow. But, watch out for those negative thoughts! Thoughts become things.
